How Anti-LGBTQ Hate Speech Hurts Everyone

Over the past few years, we have seen an influx of anti-LGBTQ hate speech from GOP members and conservative media outlets.

From religious groups shaming LGBTQ individuals to politicians using their platform to spread misinformation about the LGBTQ community, it is becoming clear that this type of language does nothing more than harm those it is meant to target.

To be clear, this type of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric solves no problem and causes more harm than good.

The Problem with Anti-LGBTQ Hate Speech

At its core, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric serves one purpose: to spread fear and hatred by perpetuating harmful stereotypes about LGBTQ individuals.

It creates an “us versus them” mentality that only serves to divide people further. It sends a message to LGBTQ individuals that they are not accepted in society, which can lead to feelings of alienation and depression.
