Beyond Borders: An Expat is Navigating the Passage from the US to Mexico
Who could have imagined I would voluntarily move out of the US? I'm leaving the only country I’ve known out of fear for my safety.
As an American, I truly believed that the United States was the land of opportunity. After all, we were taught that the American Dream was achievable for anyone willing to work hard enough.
However, after years of witnessing the injustices and inequalities within the country, I began to question that narrative.
I am planning to leave the US and relocate to Mexico. While it was a difficult decision, it was one that I knew I needed to make.
First and foremost, I have found the healthcare system in Mexico is superior to that in the United States.
As an expat, I can access high-quality healthcare without breaking the bank. In contrast, the cost of healthcare in the US can be astronomical, leaving many people with no choice but to go without medical treatment. I find it both shameful and heartbreaking that something as basic as healthcare is so inaccessible for so many Americans.
While in Mexico, regardless of my socioeconomic status, I have access to affordable healthcare.
