Recently there has been a lot of beefing about individual earnings on Medium. Some like the new methodology. Some are very displeased with their reduced earnings.

As a newer writer, I have no opinion. After all, I am new. I am still learning, and being paid to learn, well, that is what it is.

How Learning works — Developing my Craft

When learning a new skill, whether in school, work, or sports, two things are needed. First, practice. Second, celebrate success early and often.

Accepted theory shows that it is not until 10,000 hours of repetitive, boring, yet consistent practice is completed can an individual claim a high level of competence at a skill.

10,000 hours

The equivalent of nearly five years of a full time job with no time off. The calculation is that if I work at this for 3 hours each day, I can be expected to reach a high level of competency — success with any luck- in ten years. One decade.
