Childhood Trauma — the Boomer’s Perspective

Disclamer: I am told I am a ‘boomer," yet I am in denial. Regardless, I have an observation: no one escapes childhood without trauma in some form.

Childhood trauma affected members of my age, the Baby Boomers, in a distinctive way.

Despite not having access to the same educational possibilities and job paths as those available now, we were expected to succeed while growing up in a period of severe financial insecurity.

When we were growing up, mental health was seldom addressed, much less treated.

Many of us may have grown up with trauma, but we didn’t receive any help or advice on how to handle it. We had to come up with our own coping mechanisms because we weren’t encouraged to express our emotions.

This lack of direction and encouragement can have a long-lasting effect, resulting in everything from interpersonal difficulties to elevated stress and anxiety levels. It’s critical that we acknowledge this and…
