Do Guns Have More Constitutional Rights Than Women?
The United States has a higher degree of regulation on women than it does on firearms.
It’s a question that has been asked many times before — why do guns have more constitutional rights than women?
The answer is complex and goes to the heart of how the United States was founded and what rights were considered important at that time.
The Second Amendment & Gun Rights
The Second Amendment states, “A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”
This amendment was written in 1791 and explicitly grants individuals the right to own guns for self-defense and other various reasons. This amendment has been interpreted over time to include a wide range of gun ownership rights, such as concealed carry laws, open carry laws, and bans on certain types of weapons.
