Entering America’s Post-Constitutional Period: The Bleak Outlook

The United States is standing at a precarious juncture in its history.

For decades, the country has prided itself on being a beacon of democracy, a bastion of rule of law, and a champion of constitutional principles. Yet, as we move into the next decade, there is growing unease that these ideals are crumbling under the weight of authoritarian tendencies, systemic injustices, and political dysfunction.

Many are calling this a “post-constitutional period” — a time when the values enshrined in our founding documents are increasingly ignored, undermined, or outright defied.

The roots of this decline are numerous, but a key driver has been the rise of figures like Donald Trump, whose tenure as president and continued influence over the Republican Party have exposed deep vulnerabilities in America’s constitutional framework.
