Expelling an Elected Representative is Anti-Democracy

The recent removal of two Tennessee State Representatives was viewed as politically motivated and racially charged.

So here is the short version of this story.

These two individuals, both of whom are African American and Democratic, were removed from their positions by the Republican-majority Tennessee House of Representatives.

This type of power grab by the majority is undemocratic and should be frowned upon by all citizens who believe in a fair system of representation. Given that these representatives were elected democratically, their removal directly contradicts the principles of democracy. Even if the politicians in question are deemed guilty of certain offenses, they should be removed through an impeachment process rather than a show of power by those who hold the majority.

Technically, you could stop reading right there. But please don’t stop — there is much more to say.
