Losing weight is never a direct path downward on the scale. Daily ups and downs need to be managed, understood, and accepted.

When dieting, we believe that once began: as long as we lose, lose, lose.

This is the myth.

This is the lie.

The truth? Setbacks and plateaus happen when it comes to weight loss. It’s about consistency, not a one-way downward path. After multiple millenia of evolution, our bodies have developed a tendency toward the preservation of our bodies. While this served as a survival benefit to our ancestors, this creates a hurdle when attempting to lose weight.

So how do we manage that?

Some Days We Win, Some Days We Lose

The first step is to realize that not all days will be equal, and some will bring about more challenges than others.

This can include the number on the scale, what’s served for dinner, how much time we have to exercise (or don’t), etc. The key is to learn from these moments and adjust our behavior.
