Freedoms Are For All — Even Those You Don’t Like

As a liberal, it’s easy to love and support everyone who thinks like us.

We fight for the freedoms of women, minority groups, and the LGBTQ community.

However, the real test of our commitment to liberty comes when we’re faced with people who are different from us — people we don’t necessarily like that may have different views, opinions, or lifestyles. Unfortunately, we all too often fail that test, and we end up limiting the freedoms of those who disagree with us.

If we want to keep the freedoms we’ve fought for, it’s crucial we start respecting and defending the freedoms of everyone, including those we don’t like.

The Most Basic, Freedom of Speech

First and foremost, let’s talk about the right to free speech.

It doesn’t matter if what someone says offends us or makes us angry; everyone has the right to express their opinions freely without fear of censorship or retaliation. We may not agree with what someone…
