From Back the Blue to Beat the Blue: The GOP’s Police-State Double Standard
In the America many of us grew up in, praising the police was a cornerstone of Republican identity.
“Law and order.”
“Respect the badge.”
“Support our officers.”
It was a defining message — until it wasn’t.
Because on January 6, 2021, a mob waving MAGA flags, Trump banners, and Gadsden snakes beat, maced, trampled, and nearly killed the very officers Republicans claimed to revere. They stormed the Capitol, attacked law enforcement with poles and bear spray, and called it patriotism.
And instead of universal condemnation, what did they get?
Sympathy. Excuses. Pardon promises.
From the same party that once said, “If you don’t want to get hurt by police, don’t break the law.”
This isn’t a contradiction. It’s a full-blown moral collapse.
