Is racism truly nonexistent in politics and the public sphere?

Nikki Haley, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, was born Nimrata Randhawa to Indian American parents.

However, she goes by her husband’s last name and is commonly known as “Nikki Haley.”

Some may argue that this is just a personal preference or a way to simplify things for the public. But others are questioning if there is more to it.

In today’s society, where diversity and inclusion are being emphasized more than ever, some people see Haley’s choice as an attempt to downplay her ethnic background and assimilate into white American culture.

This is not the first time a public figure has faced criticism for changing their name or adopting a different persona. Many celebrities and politicians have done so to appeal to a wider audience or conform to societal norms.
