He vowed to stand up for working people, pledging to “drain the swamp” and fight against the elite establishment. His speeches were finely tuned to resonate with those who felt abandoned by globalization and stagnant wages. However, for those who paid close attention, his purported populism was merely a guise for tax breaks that primarily favored the wealthy.
After almost ten years, the outcomes are evident.
The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), the crowning achievement of Trump's presidency, was a boon for the wealthy, thinly veiled as relief for everyday Americans.
