In 1976, as America celebrated its 200th birthday, a Canadian band released an album that would go on to become one of the most iconic and influential albums in progressive rock history. That band was Rush, and the album was “2112.”

With its futuristic concept and complex musical arrangements, “2112” cemented Rush’s place as a pioneer of the genre and solidified its status as one of the greatest bands in rock music.

Beginnings: A Fantasy

The Priests of the Temples of Syrinx have outlawed individual creativity and freedom in the dystopian tale that the title track itself tells. It follows a protagonist who discovers an ancient guitar and uses it to rebel against this oppressive society.
