Ranking Obesity: The Disease No One Believes Exists
Despite repeated reports of its life-threatening dangers, obesity remains shrouded in mystery. Treating the disease and getting treatment are minefields.
The indisputable fact is that the disease killing us is obesity.
Yet the disease remains rampantly untreated.
Insurance companies routinely deny care for the condition. Instead, the patient must present with other conditions, typically diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac disease. By delaying care, the patient’s eventual outcome is likely to be more costly and complicated to treat.
There is an unconscious bias in society that views obesity as a choice, or simply ‘too much eating’.
However, the fact remains that this disease is complex and its causes are multifaceted. Eating disorders, metabolic syndromes, genetics, medication side effects, environmental toxins, and lifestyle choices all contribute to an individual’s weight.
