In a political landscape already fraught with division and polarization, the unthinkable seems to be inching closer to reality: the installation of a monarchy in the United States of America.

Despite the existence of our great constitutional republic, the GOP, under the influence of figures like Donald Trump, is attempting to sell their version of autocracy to the American people.

But are we going to allow it?

For centuries, Americans have prided themselves on the strength and resilience of our democratic institutions. Our Founding Fathers fought tooth and nail to break free from the tyranny of a king and establish a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Yet, here we are, witnessing a blatant disregard for those hard-won freedoms as some within the Republican Party seek to consolidate power in the hands of a single…
