With daily news and headlines crafted to be inflammatory, outrageous and emotion-evoking, who hasn’t reacted, adding their own two cents.

Why do we continue to attempt to sway that complete stranger to our side of the argument?

Why do we feel it our duty to defend our positions to someone that we will never meet, whose opinion has literally no impact upon my life?

Why do we feel compelled to reply to obvious click-baity propagandist memes?

It’s Just Plain Wrong

Pre-social media evolution, the subjects of religion and politics were considered taboo topics, not appropriate for discussion in many situations.

Welcome to social media!

Everyone is free to express their opinions in relative anonymity and insulation from public accountability. Thanks to the mob mentality that social media fosters, even the most fringed-thinking elements can find their soulmates.

Have you ever read an acquaintances post and stared at it, slack-jawed, wondering how you missed for so long that this person was dangerously insane? Perhaps you find that one quiet kid from high school is now a card-carrying member of the Klu Klux Klan. You now see that previous co-worker that is a raging homophobe.
