The Forgotten Promise: Why Republicans Ignore the Poor After Elections

As we reflect on the political landscape, an uncomfortable truth must be addressed: no matter what strides are made in society, there will always be poor people.

This isn’t an inherently hopeless or pessimistic statement. Instead, it’s a reality that should compel us to do more to ensure everyone can live with dignity and opportunity. Yet, when we look closely at how political parties engage with the issue of poverty, a disturbing pattern emerges.

The Republican Party makes grand promises during election campaigns, often positioning itself as a champion of the “forgotten man” or “hardworking Americans.”

As soon as the polls close and the campaign trail quiets down, low-income people seem to vanish from their agenda. Let’s explore why this happens and how this abandonment perpetuates inequality.
