If you’ve been paying attention to your bottle of tequila, you may have noticed the letters “CRT” on the label of your favorite bottle.

So what exactly does CRT stand for, and what does it mean for the tequila you’re drinking?

CRT Explained

CRT stands for “Consejo Regulador del Tequila,” which translates to the “Tequila Regulatory Council.”

The CRT is a Mexican government agency that was created in 1994 to regulate the production, quality, and labeling of tequila. It is responsible for ensuring that tequila is produced in accordance with Mexican law and meets certain quality standards.
