As a child growing up in rural Ohio, I was taught to not discuss politics. As a child I thought this strange, often wondering why speaking of ideas was repressed. In hindsight, I now see this was due to our nuclear family not agreeing entirely with our more broad family.
Fast forward several decades, having left the repressive, rural region, I have respect for my parents wisdom. I understand the wisdom of not discussing politics with those incapable of intellectually stimulating discourse.
Today, the entire United States is embroiled in this discourse, to use the recently adopted euphemism of the Republican party’s censure document. In fact, this is only the most recent sign of the degree of de-evolution of the GOP.
