This Christian is a Recovering Evangelical: Here’s What You Need to Know
As a woman who once wholeheartedly embraced the conservative evangelical movement, I find myself in a place of reflection and recovery.
My journey has led me through the highs of faith and community, but also through the disillusionment of witnessing the deviation from the very teachings we claimed to hold dear. This is a story of grappling with the discrepancies between what I believed and what I saw and, ultimately, finding solace in returning to the heart of Jesus’ teachings.
For many years, I identified strongly with the conservative evangelical movement. I was drawn to its emphasis on personal salvation, the authority of Scripture, and the fervor for spreading the gospel. It was a community where I found belonging, where my faith was nurtured, and where I felt empowered to make a difference in the world.
But over time, cracks began to form in the foundation of my belief system. I started to see a stark contrast between the teachings of Jesus and the actions of some within the evangelical community.
Instead of embodying love, grace, and compassion, I witnessed judgment, exclusion, and hypocrisy.
