Today’s Sermon: Let me Discredit Your beliefs
Pastors who sermonize on the wickedness of another’s denomination are missing the point
Have you ever endured a long winded, rambling sermon in which the Preacher spends this precious time with his flock to rant on the failing of the ‘other’ denomination?
As an attendee, I am not expecting magical choirs of angels or holy spirit sprinkles in every message. No need to berrate me on the evils of the ‘prosperity gospel’ televangelists (ahem, Mr. Olsteen). Stop your yelling in the pulpit as if I was some juvenile delinquent in need of being scared straight.
Brimstone and Fire is Not Biblical
Preachers enjoy the power of the pulpit.
The are aware of the captive audience, the social pressures they wield and the inability of their members to escape this tirade.
This despicable misuse of scripture (recall the flipping of tables in the temple by Jesus) twists the meaning of scripture’s righteous anger and applies it to every minor pet peeve or negative social media post viewed the past week.
