Trump’s Loopholes: Why He Isn’t Being Held Accountable for His Crimes

We all need to know if the rule of law applies to everyone and until the former president is indicted, this controversy remains

Donald Trump has been accused of a litany of crimes, from inciting violence to obstructing justice.

Despite the numerous allegations against him, Trump still maintains power and is not being held accountable. It’s time to explore why — exactly — Trump isn’t being held to the same standards as the average citizen.

The Constitution Grants Him Immunity

The Constitution grants presidents immunity from criminal prosecution while in office.

This means that even if Trump were found guilty in a court of law, he could not be imprisoned while he was in office. The only two ways to remove a sitting president are through impeachment or resignation, both of which are difficult processes with no guarantee of success. Impeachment requires votes from both chambers of Congress, and it is often difficult for a president to be removed when their own party controls Congress.
