We’ve all been there!

Eating to soothe emotions is known as emotional eating, and it’s more common than you might think. While it’s okay to indulge in your favorite foods once in a while, emotional eating can quickly become a habit that sabotages your weight loss goals and your overall health.

How emotions impact what we eat

Emotional eating is eating to numb emotions or to find comfort and distraction from emotional discomfort.

When you’re stressed or feeling down, your body responds by releasing cortisol, commonly known as the stress hormone. Cortisol can cause feelings of hunger and trigger cravings for sugary or fatty foods that provide instant gratification, making you feel better temporarily.
