Hidden Gems in the Land of Magic

Want to hear the recipe for a bad time on vacation? Wake up hung over in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, starving during the high season.

My priorities were pretty limited at this point, and they consisted of-

  • Coffee
  • Light breakfast
  • Calm and quiet ambiance to smooth my headache

For anyone that has never adventured to Vallarta during the high season, let me frame this up for you. High season is when most of western Canada travels south to avoid the extreme weather of their land.

You will find hordes of middle aged, white, tourists looking for the Mexican versions of their favorite things. And when I say hordes, I am not exaggerating. The north American attraction to this warm climate is epic. Now I have digressed, so back we go to my story…

As I approached my favorite breakfast spot, I was clearly late to the party.

Every table in the place was occupied and there were at least two dozen folks waiting patiently for their table. Today was not the day for me to be patient.

Dejectedly, with head down and nearly in tears, I left in search of breakfast. My expectations were low, but onward.
