Virginity: A Concept from the Dark Ages We Need to Lose

In a world striving for equity and fairness, remnants of archaic beliefs still linger like shadows from the past. One such concept, deeply entrenched in societal norms and expectations, is that of virginity.

Rooted in the idea of purity and often used as a measure of a woman’s worth, virginity is a construct that serves no purpose in modern society and is in dire need of abandonment.

From a feminist perspective, the notion of virginity is not only outdated but inherently oppressive.

Historically, a woman’s worth has been tied to her sexual purity, creating a culture of shame and control surrounding female sexuality. This harmful belief system perpetuates the idea that a woman’s value lies in her purity, reinforcing the damaging notion that she is a commodity to be traded or possessed by men.
