Weight Loss Plateaus: The Body’s Way of Getting Its Act Together

Weight loss is often described as a journey filled with highs, lows, and, occasionally, frustratingly flat terrain known as plateaus.

These plateaus—periods where your weight stubbornly refuses to budge despite your continued efforts—can be disheartening. However, they are not the enemy. Weight loss plateaus can be seen as the body’s way of getting its act together before progressing.

Understanding Weight Loss Plateaus

A weight-loss plateau occurs when your weight remains constant for an extended period, even though you maintain your exercise and diet regimen.

This happens because, as you lose weight, your body undergoes various physiological changes. Your metabolic rate slows down, muscle mass can decrease, and your body becomes more efficient, requiring fewer calories to perform the same activities.
