There’s an old saying: “Live by the sword, die by the sword.”

It’s an apt metaphor for the escalating cycle of hate and violence that Donald Trump has fueled with his incendiary rhetoric over the years. What’s most troubling about this dangerous narrative, however, is that the very people who have been drawn to Trump’s populist, grievance-driven message are now often the ones taking it to its violent extremes.

When your own followers turn on you — or anyone, for that matter — you might want to reconsider what you’re feeding them.
