Why Aren’t More Americans Afraid of an Authoritarian Government?

As we witness the rise of authoritarianism worldwide, fueled by nationalist and populist movements, it’s essential to ask ourselves: Why aren’t more Americans afraid of the same possibility in our country?

Despite mounting evidence of corruption, propaganda, and suppression of basic freedoms, the majority of the voting public seems either indifferent or resigned to their fate.

One reason why Americans aren’t more afraid of an authoritarian government is the lack of historical understanding and appreciation of the democratic institutions that we tend to take for granted.
