The trendy new culture wars being fought at board of education meetings all over the country are not about education at all. Why do we insist children continue to learn to write cursive? Why are we insisting students daily participate in mandatory patriotism recitations of the pledge of allegiance? Why are state legislatures restricting the words teachers can use?

Again, none of this is education.
